Shogun’s Sunset is a cross between Accoyo America and Snowmass lines. On the top he has Accoyo America Shogun, a Legacy son, as a grandsire. Shogun was the sire of National Champion Kingfish and when I looked at Shogun’s offspring I noted that we have retained many of the females in our breeding program here at Little CreekFarm Alpacas in North Salem. We go to this line at Accoyo America for staple length, fleece weight/density without sacrificing style or fineness. I imagine that is why Julie Skinner purchased Sunset’s sire, Shogun’s Samurai, to not only improve staple length in the Snowmass herd but to introduce genetic diversity with a complementary fleece style while doing so. On the bottom of Shogun’s Sunset’s pedigree is Legendary Sunshine, a fawn Elite Legend daughter. Legendary Sunshine gets high marks for fineness and uniformity, and my shearing notes say that she maintained a grade 1 fleece as a six year old in 2021.
Shogun’s Sunset comments from shearing were for fleece “excellent overall-sale or use”. As you can imagine being pegged as an animal to “use” in the Snowmass breeding program is a designation that most males here won’t ever reach. His conformation notes say that his is square and correct. My only negative notation is that he has lost some facial coverage.
